Hi Manda :) Glad you found us here—we love love love Laxmi. I was very sad to hear of her all-too-early demise as well, but hope that the time she had on earth was happy. She certainly always brightens my day when she appears onscreen.

Since long I was trying to get some information about Laxmi Chhaya. I saw few of her pictures. The last one was Teesai Manzeel. Then I forgot her name. I could not remember. But she was always there at the back of my mind. Today I found her after so many years, in beautiful dancing poses. I wanted to make enquiry, ‘how she is doing?’. Alas, just came to know that she is more in this world. God, I felt heartache. She had a beautiful, cute face and was very attractive. She was a fabulous dancer and given opportunity was a great actress.

I’d love to see the video and in fact put it up on my blog if there’s a youtube on it or something. Some of these things I was aware of. Don’t know if he ‘hated’ Kishore. But yes Rafi was his singer of choice. Kishore has after sung for his films. thanks so much for your comment..

There are four other Helen numbers composed by Shanker Jaikishan that I would add to this list. ‘Bachke kahaan kaaoge’ from ‘Yakeen’, ‘Aye dil karoon main kya’ from ‘Bhai Bahen’, ‘Baat zara hai aapas ki’ from ‘Jahan Pyar Miley’ and ‘Hai isika naam zindagi’ from ‘Nadaan’ all of which were released during 1969-71. I personally feel Helen’s best numbers were composed by S-J and Pancham.

Dada Burman’s ‘Baithe hain kya uske paas’ from ‘Jewel Thief’ can also be a close contender. As for ‘Aa jaane jaan’ no doubt, it is well sung by Lata and has a unique picturisation too but it suffers badly from bad orchestration. If you listen to the interlude pieces, they sound quite jarring and are not in sync with Lata’s soft vocals. Even the quality of recording is quite indifferent.

From the B/W era, I would pick, ‘Mr. John ya Baba Khan’ from ‘Baarish’, and ‘Mera naam Chin Chin Choo’ from ‘Howrah Bridge’.
